  • Mr. Thorne and Mr. Weiss co-created the LIGO at the prestigious California Institute of Technology, which has taken home 18 Nobels since the prizes were first awarded in 1901.
  • India’s first Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) laboratory will be set up in Aundh in Hingoli district of Maharashtra.
  • It will be 3rd such laboratory in the world and first outside the United States. The existing laboratories are located in Hanford, Washington and in Livingston, Louisiana.
